It has been well over a year since Rockstar announced the first GTA VI trailer, and anticipation for GTA VI Trailer 2 has only intensified

In the absence of official updates, fans have developed a wide range of theories and rumors, some grounded in observation, others purely speculative. While recent rumours have been mixed in terms of credibility, excitement within the community around the trailer remains as strong as ever.

The Rockstar community has been, and still is, anticipating a second trailer, which has led to growing speculations and rumors. Here are some examples of the, ultimately debunked, theories we've had during the past months of 2024 and 2025:

October 4: The License Plate Theory

This rumour originated from the "Pizza This..." video released by Rockstar, containing a scooter with the license plate stating "Oct" as the expiration date and the last letter of the plate being "4", leading some to believe it's hinting at a release on October 4th.

Although Rockstar has had a tendency to hint at future content through their trailers, what's the likelihood of a scooter license plate revealing such an event?

November 22: The Moon Theory

GTA 6 Moon Theory

The moon theory was a fairly creative speculation. In September 2023, two months before Rockstar released the initial GTA VI trailer, a GTA Online promo image was released containing two characters partially blocking the view of the Vinewood sign, except for the letters V and I. Secondly, the moon featured is in its waning gibbous phase. Based on the provided information, the community speculated that the GTA VI trailer would release in the real-life's next waning gibbous phase. Amazingly, the community was right!

Things took an interesting turn on November 2nd, 2024: Rockstar published yet another screenshot that, again, contained an almost full-lit moon, and a GTA Online character seated on the hood of a car, similar to the GTA 6 official artwork.

Apparently, there seemed to be a pattern, so as before, the community hoped that we'd get more information on GTA VI during the next real-life waning gibbous phase - November 22nd. Turns out no trailer was released, and another theory was debunked, despite the theory being somewhat credible.

December 27: The 27 Theory

The 27th of December seemed to be the date, or so we thought. Prior to this date, speculations were circling the community as the number 27 kept occurring in several instances on several occasions, leading fans to believe that this might be the date.

It all started from two cryptic pictures that Rockstar developers posted on Twitter, showing some GTA 6-themed merch. At the bottom of the pictures, there was a note that had the date 12/27, along with an address leading to a car dealership that was called "27 Auto Sales of Leon".

Plus, the number of posts on the Rockstar's Instagram account had 27 posts, and Rockstar's 27th anniversary would fall in December. However, this theory also didn't come to fruition, as nothing happened on the day.

March 25: Game Informer Theory

Rumours about the second trailer's release on March 25 originated from an anonymous social media account that confidently claimed this specific date. Despite the lack of proof, fans have given this anonymous user the benefit of the doubt and proceeded to assume its credibility. After repeated publications from the user, who goes by the name ZestycloseAd6898, the words eventually spread.

Wait till next year. I can't wait to see this go mental, and you all spend weeks trying to figure out who I am & how I have been RIGHT this entire time

- r/ZestycloseAd6898 on Reddit

As it turned out, March 25 came and went without a trailer. In fairness, the confidence behind the claim made it easy for some to believe. Given the identity of the source, there was practically nothing to confirm this rumour other than the user himself or herself. This rumour would, however, gain momentum when Game Informer announced its return, coincidentally highlighting March 25 - though this was likely nothing more than a coincidence.

April 1: The T-Shirt Theory

Another theory was inspired by the infamous cryptic shirt - the “??? Tee” - added to GTA Online in June 2023, revealing random strings of numbers. Although they did seem random, it did, in fact, reveal the first GTA VI trailer, which has led fans to believe the shirt may also contain a date hinting at the second trailer as well. GTA 6 Trailer 2 for April 2025 might’ve been Rockstar’s plan all along, as GTAV’s cryptic shirt that revealed Trailer 1’s exact date and time also shows another sequence “040125” = April 1st 2025.

While the shirt did accurately hint at the release date of the first trailer, it should not be forgotten that it all might have been a coincidence, especially given the sheer number of sequences featured. Consequently, this gave serious credibility to a possible release of the second trailer as another number sequence stated "040125". This naturally raises the question - was "040125" originally intended as the second trailer’s release date, only to be postponed? Regardless, a debunked theory.

What Can We Make Out of This?

Most things read online should be taken with a grain of salt, especially information that does not come from an official source. Nevertheless, it is undeniably tempting to find hidden messages in Rockstar's promotional videos and images, as they tend to do so sometimes. Conclusively, all the countless theories and rumours that arose were debunked, and stronger evidence would be needed to support new claims.

For now, even though most of us have already watched it several times, the only official GTA VI content we can enjoy is still GTA VI Trailer 1.
