GTA 5 Story Mode Properties Guide: Businesses & Safehouses

Here you find the full list of purchasable Properties in the Story Mode of GTA V, including all Businesses, Safehouses and Vehicle Storage.
Each of the three protagonists has their own safehouse in Grand Theft Auto V, with more being automatically unlocked for Franklin and Trevor as you progress through the story. These allow you to save progress, change clothes, store cars inside garages, and perform other activities.
In addition, after the mission "Nervous Ron", you can purchase properties by approaching the "For Sale" sign outside the business. These either generate weekly income or provide vehicle storage.
This GTA 5 Property Guide shows you which of the three main characters can own each property, the map locations, and allows you to sort the list by Purchase Price, Weekly Income, and time required to recover the investment, to figure out which GTA V Businesses are the most profitable.
GTA 5 Safehouse Features
In Grand Theft Auto V, the safehouses come with the following features:
- Save Game: Sleep in the bed to save your progress. Doing so advances the game time, depending on the character (6 hours for Michael, 8 hours for Franklin, 12 hours for Trevor).
- First Aid Kit: To restore your health
- Wardrobe: To change clothes
- Vehicle Storage: To store vehicles inside the garage or parking spot
- Computer: To access the in-game internet
- Television: To watch the in-game TV
- Alcohol & Drugs: To drink or smoke weed using a bong
- Tennis & Yoga: only available at Michael's house.
Note: Weapons normally cannot be equipped inside safehouses. However, if you have a wanted level, you're allowed to use weapons to defend yourself.
How To Unlock Safehouses in GTA 5
All safehouses in Grand Theft Auto V are unlocked automatically (for free) as you progress through the story:
| Safehouse | Character | How To Unlock |
|---|---|---|
| De Santa Residence (Michael's Mansion) | Michael | Complete "Complications" |
| Clinton Residence | Franklin | Complete "Franklin and Lamar" |
| 3671 Whispymound Drive (Franklin's House) | Franklin | Complete "The Hotel Assassination" |
| Trevor's Trailer | Trevor | Complete "Mr. Philips" |
| Floyd's Apartment | Trevor | Complete "Friends Reunited" |
| Vanilla Unicorn | Trevor | Complete "Hang Ten" |
It is not possible to buy additional safehouses or apartments in the Story Mode of the game, as this feature was made exclusive to GTA Online.
However, in the single-player mode of GTA V you can purchase other properties in the form of Businesses and Vehicle Storage (see below).
How To Buy Properties in GTA 5
The ability to purchase properties in Grand Theft Auto V is unlocked after completing the mission "Nervous Ron".
The purchasable properties are marked on the map with a house icon containing a $ symbol. Some properties are character-specific, meaning thay can only be acquired by either Michael, Franklin on Trevor.
To purchase a property, navigate to its location, approach the Dynasty 8 "For Sale" sign, and press the button shown on screen - as long as you have the necessary cash, of course.
Each purchased business will generate a weekly profit, deposited into the owner's bank account every seven days.
To buy all properties in GTA V, it will cost you almost $220,000,000 in total. However, to satisfy 100% completion of the game, you only need to purchase 5 properties.
Note: Occasionally, the manager of a property may contact you to help run the business. These Property Management side missions involve delivering products or protecting the business from attacks. They're not mandatory, but ignoring these requests leads to reduced weekly profit.
